Location
This photo was taken in one of the oldest roads in Naxxar (Malta). It was taken with my mobile phone (OnePlus 7) as most of my photos. I am just an enthusiast, and my aspiration has always been to get the best from the subject with the limited equipment available, and limiting post processing to a minimum to compensate where the mobile camera might lack, although in this case, it was limited to switching to black and white and adding a flare to create some motion in what might have been a very quiet image.Time
I was returning home from work in a cold winter evening and the street was absolutely empty. It was an opportunity to capture the moment of solitude and focusing on the beauty and characteristics of the street.Lighting
Considering that the only light available were the street lights, I tried to tilt the mobile slightly downwards in order to limit the direct light in the lens. This technique normally generates high contrasts when changing to black and white, and I tend to use it when taking night pictures on hand and without the use of a tripod.Equipment
This was shot on a OnePlus 7 mobile, on hand and no flash. Light sources only from available lights through the street lighting.Inspiration
As I said earlier, I was on my way back home after a day's work and being a relatively cold evening the street was deserted. It is not very common for this particular street to be so, as it leads to the village center. When I realised that I was alone, it hit me that it was the perfect moment to capture the beautiful characteristics of this old street, one of the three oldest streets that the village evolved around in the past hundreds of years (Naxxar being one of the oldest villages on the island).Editing
Basic post processing, with the main change was to convert the image to black and white. Main reason for this was to eliminate the yellowish light emitted by the street lightings. After slightly increasing the contrast to accentuate the patterns of the slabs on the road and the stones on the facades of the homes in the street, I added a lens flare filter to create some motion to an otherwise, motionless image. In my camera bag
I am more of an enthusiast than a photographer, and my main interest is capturing the moment as best I can with the limited equipment available. This is why most of the time I end up taking pictures with my mobile phone.Feedback
Without trying to sound presumptuous, when I try to capture pictures of similar old small streets, one can easily get lost in so many details around. Normally, what I do is try to use a wide angle setting so as to capture as much as possible of the road and keeping the focus at a longer setting, mainly to keep the subject more open for a broader view.
