I love the tonality and lighting of this image!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in New Mexico in the bosque along the Rio Grande river. The snow covered Sandia mountains can be see in the distance.

Time

I shot this at sunset just as storm clouds started to break up over the mountains.

Lighting

The light was beautiful with the sun setting on the snow capped mountains. A faint rainbow, virga and luminescent clouds add to the drama.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 5d4 EF 24-70mm lens on a tripod.

Inspiration

My oldest son just purchased his first home in another state. He asked me for a large print of the river and mountains for his new home. This scene unfolded a few days after his request and it made a beautiful addition to his new home!

Editing

Yes, i made minor tweaks in Lightroom, added a filter in Luminar and finished in Photoshop with noise reduction and spot removal.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon 24-70mm lens as well as a Canon 100-400. I have wider and longer lens but these two workhorse lens are a great combination that really cover all my needs.

Feedback

Be prepared especially around sunset. It had been cloudy and gray all day but I kept watching and headed out anyway. When the clouds did break up, I was set up and ready to shoot. This doesn’t always pan out but when it does, it’s magical!
