Location
I took this photo at OHSU hospital “up the hill”. It is at the tram mechanism that is by a balcony at the side of one of the floors.Time
Late morning one sunny day in summer.Lighting
There was no direct sunlight shining in the tram housing, but it was all white inside so it was well lit without glare.Equipment
At that point in time I only had my point and shoot Canon SX110, but it takes really nice photos. Shot handheld.Inspiration
I liked that it was all white except for the cable wheel which was a nice bright contrast. I also was drawn to the geometric shapes of the supporting structure. The bright blue and red boxes made a nice little accents and completed the primary colors scheme.Editing
I think I only cropped it a little to make the wheel more the subject as opposed to the structureIn my camera bag
I now have a Canon 70D with a Tamron 16-300 because we tour by motorcycle and I’m limited. But in car I also have Tokina SD 11-20 f2.8 and Canon 70-300 IS USM and I have circular polarizes for each lensFeedback
I think take various angles and distances from the subject because what you think looks good doesn’t always work out well when you see it in an actual photo. I took about a dozen photos to get this one shot that works for me. And study the shots you’re not happy with—lighting? Angle? Distance? Composition? Shutter speed? Failures are the best teachers if you look at them with a critical eye.
