Location
In a rural setting in Mendon, MA, where there was a big open space of farmland surrounded by trees and woods.Time
Sunset and the Golden Hour before sunset are my favorite time of day to take pictures. I love shooting a vibrant sunset when it’s at its peak and there are trees or buildings around to capture as black silhouettes against the light.Lighting
The natural light during Golden Hour gives a nice warm hue to everything, like a glow. And the light during sunset is challenging if you want to focus on details in a subject such as a building or person, but it’s perfect if you just want to capture outlines of shapes as silhouettes against a colorful sky:Equipment
I used my iphone, as I do for all my images. This was about 5 or 6 years ago, so it was either my iphone 4S or my iPhone 6s, I believe.Inspiration
I love taking sunset shots in rural settings that have an unobstructed view of the sunset and horizon with a few silhouetted trees with bare branches that look like veins in the forefront - the black outline contrasts with the vibrant colors of the sky background.Editing
I did post-processing on my iphone, to enhance the bold sunset colors, increasing the vibrance and saturation, while lowering the brightness and highlights to darken the landscape so the outline was all silhouetted against a colorful sky background. In my camera bag
Only a few lens attachments for my iphone.Feedback
Experiment with different landscapes at different times during the sunset. I usually keep snapping away for the entire sunset to catch all the different skyscapes at a particular location, since no two sunset scenes are exactly alike. The sky, clouds and light is constantly changing. Afterwards you can go through and select your favorites and do post-processing to enhance it.
