My girlfriend volunteers at a community health organisation called The Feel Good factor in Chapeltown, Leeds. The centre runs all kinds of classes in art, cookery and many other subjects. There is also a community garden there, tended by volunteers who learn gardening skills as they go. For instance, when making collages, we can go into the garden and collect foliage for collages and printing.
My girlfriend has always been interested in Chinese lanterns, also called physalis, as they grow in her garden at home. Generally in the Summer, the lanterns are bright orange with a berry inside. In the Winter, the casing of the berry forms a very fragile netting type structure, which she has always loved. We tried to capture the fragility of the Chinese lanterns in these photographs.
