Taking pictures on vacation is always a struggle. A balance between staying in the moment and capturing it. The stars were about as vivid as I've ever seen them. There was no moon so I didn't really think it would work, but I would have regretted not trying to get a picture of the Milky Way over the canyon. Once you're in the park they don't really close areas down inside of it so why not go walk along a mile-deep chasm with no guard rail in pitch-black darkness? Safety third! Christine and Brandon helped me by flashing their phones and headlamps all over the place no fewer than 20 times. Each of these pictures took 30 seconds to capture by the way. I wished I had tried this more than once previously now that I was in a national park. The canyon photos didn't really turn out the way I had hoped but on the way back I coaxed them into shining their lights on this scene another 20 times. "A little more on the fence. OK. Faster this time." We laughed when we thought about what other people must be thinking. It always feels like I'm spending too much time trying to get something I like instead of just taking it all in, but photos or it didn't happen, right?
