Location
The photos was taken in Monument Valley, AZ from my hotel's 3rd floor balcony.Time
Multiple exposures were taken at dawn and sunrise.Lighting
Of course the lighting was all natural but multiple exposures were taken via exposure bracketing for a total exposure range of +1 to -1 stops taken in 1/3 increments then stacked together in Photoshop. The exposure range allowed for naturally exposing the full tonal range of the shadows and the highlights.Equipment
Nikon D810, Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 lens, shutter release, and tripod.Inspiration
On a previous vacation my wife and I accidently stumbled into Monument Valley at mid-day while traveling from the Grand Canyon to Arches National Park. I made up my mind at that point in time I needed to spend a couple of days at Monument Valley during a later vacation. My hotel room had a great balcony view overlooking the valley which lined up perfectly for the sunrise. This land of colorful sandstone buttes is considered sacred by the Navajo tribe, and rightfully so. After spending some quality time here taking photographs I experienced something special spiritually. By the way, I also recommend star trail photography at this same location.Editing

Experiment, experiment, experiment! This photo would not have been possible without my experimentation in the past practicing exposure bracketing and photo stacking.
