This photo was taken in our garden. I had had this image in my mind for some time, but something always came up. This day, I decided it was now or never, so even though it had started to drizzle, we went out. My daughter didn't fuss about the weather as she is keen to get the message out there!Time
This was taken around 4pm on August 25, 2019. This is our winter time as we are situated at the tip of Africa.Lighting
The conditions were overcast with drizzle. The light was rather dim, but the overcast conditions did act like a reflector, so I was able to shoot with natural light. My daughter having light hair, helped lift the image, darker hair may have not had the same effect.Equipment
I used my Nikon D750 with the 24-70mm 2,8 lens No flash or other lighting was used.Inspiration
My children are very aware of the state of our earth and the need to do something about protecting it. My daughter recently joined a little school that has a purpose of teaching children to use their voices to bring attention to the problems the earth is facing. Being around them talking and being indignant whenever they see someone throwing trash to the ground or being cruel to wildlife inspired this image.Editing
I processed the RAW image, first in Adobe camera RAW and then finished in Photoshop. It didn't need much work. I just darkened the background to make the subject pop more and warmed up her skin and a final touch of sharpening which i do to all RAW images. In my camera bag
I usually carry both a Nikon D750 as well as a D800. My most used lenses are the Nikon 24-70, 2,8 and the Tamron 70-200, 2,8. I also carry a Rotolight Neo as well as a speedlight: Nikon SB910Feedback
Tips for shooting children is to have a plan going in so that one can get it done quickly. Children lose focus and get bored quickly. In this case.... 10 minutes! Granted it was rather unpleasant weather, but I was able to do this as I knew exactly what type of image I wanted to achieve and had everything needed on hand ready.
