Behind The Lens
Location
This photograph was taken in Monument Valley, Utah. We traveled onto the valley floor in total darkness, directed by our Indian guide. As first light was dawning, I set up and was waiting to catch the splendid view and record it with my camera.Time
The photo was taken in October of 2019 at daybreak.Lighting
The lighting was all natural, using available light in the early predawn hour.Equipment
My camera was a Canon 5D Mark IV, with an EF 24-70 lens, mounted on a Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
The magnificent mountains and buttes of Utah are the only inspiration needed. I just hoped to do justice to that stunning place.Editing
Processed with Adobe Lightroom software. In my camera bag
I normally will carry one of my Canon cameras and a couple of lenses, usually an EF 24-70mm 2.8 and a 70-200mm telephoto for greater reach. I also carry a complete set of Lee filters, cable release. A Manfrotto travel tripod and misc. gear for cleaning, extra memory cards, etc.Feedback
Try to imagine a shot before you shoot. If possible, before you even set out so that you bring the necessary equipment. If you’re in a place that’s foreign to you, reach out to someone with local knowledge before you go. I would never have found myself in the right spot to take this photograph without the direction of my Indian guide.
