Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the ferry crossing from Ullapool to Stornoway, I don’t do well on boats and decided to go the the top deck for some air and the view was breath taking.

Time

This was shot at about 1ish in the afternoon it was the perfect time as the weather could not have been better for natural light.

Lighting

The weather can be an enemy when it comes to some of my photos but with the cloud cover being minimal it made the perfect lighting for my photo.

Equipment

I’ll be honest, I usually use a lumix G2 with a wide angle lens but it was packed away in a suitcase in my car so I grabbed my new iPhone to see how the camera was and I was very impressed.

Inspiration

I’m always looking for the “perfect” photo, always trying to find the best shot out of anything i deem appropriate and most of the time do not succeed in the photo being how I visualised regardless of the photo being good or not. But this photo seemed to set itself up and came out exactly how I visualised it.

Editing

As this photo was shot on an iPhone 11 I did not use any post processing tools or equipment. I would usually use photoshop on my Mac book.

In my camera bag

I am an amateur photographer and my equipment is limited, I currently have a Panasonic LUMIX G2 Micro 4thirds with an 14-42mm lens and a 45-150mm lens. I have a Tairoad Lightweight Tripod but have hardly even used it as I tend to shoot quite spontaneously. And of course a few spare batteries and memory cards.

Feedback

Make sure that if taking a photo on a moving platform use a camera lens with image stability, always try and use the rule of thirds and make sure you have plenty of light. A wide angle lens is a must for landscape photography or you can grab your phone if the shot can not wait.
