Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Fonyód. It is a city beside Lake Balaton in Hungary. The building used to be a discotheque, but is standing abandoned for quite some years now.

Time

I was attending a photo workshop, led by a prominent photography artist in Hungary. As an all day event, we arrived to this particular place in the early afternoon. The current task was to make best use of natural light that was given at the moment. I took the picture on 09/19/2019 at 2:42PM.

Lighting

Lighting was tricky, because most of the light was behind the model, so i had to use a reflector screen to add some light from the right side of the frame.

Equipment

I used a 70-300 tele-zoom lens with my D750 Nikon.

Inspiration

I asked the model for this pose, so that i could show a little flash-back to the days when this building used to be a party place with music and dance.

Editing

Apart from setting the picture to black and white, i had to adjust the highlights and the shadows somewhat, to get a balanced lighting for the model, because of using what natural light was available at the time, and the fact that the reflector screen was farther from the subject then it would have been ideal.

In my camera bag

I have a rather basic set of gear, a D750 body, a Tamron 24-70 f2.8, a Nikkor 50mm f1.8 and a Nikkor 70-300 f4.5-5.6 tele-zoom lens. Usually i have my SB700 flash with me as well.
