Water spouting around the horses at the base of la fontaine des Quatre-Parties-du-Monde, also known as fontaine Carpeaux, built in 1874 in the jardin des Grands-Explorateurs Marco-Polo et Cavelier-de-la-Salle. Sculptures of women representing four parts of the world: Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, hold a globe above their heads. Sculptor Emmanuel Frémiet made the horses in the fountain’s basin around the statue, the same year he crafted his statue of Joan of Arc in place des Pyramides.
