Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the Black Sea coast near Elenite resort in Bulgaria. I have long dreamed of shooting seascapes and finally I had the chance.

Time

I found this picturesque desolate place during an evening walk along the beach. The sun was almost sat down and hid behind a mountain. The sky was painted in beautiful colors. The sea was already darker on the horizon. This created a nice contrast to the white sea foam near the shore. Photo taken on August 14, 2018 at 8:15 pm.

Lighting

Although the sun was setting, there was no need for additional illumination. The glare of the sun on the wet sand created an extra charm. Only natural light is here.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D750 with an 24-120 mm f/4 lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

In the afternoon the sky above the sea was clear. But towards the evening the clouds began to gather on the horizon. I wanted to find a place away from people to take pictures of it at sunset. When I saw this piece of shore with a picturesque group of stones in the foreground, I stopped to shoot.

Editing

Usually, I shoot the RAW in a standard camera mode without enhancing colors and contrast. So I always edit landscape shots. I slightly increased the vibration, extended the dynamic range and added vignetting to boost the dramatic image.

In my camera bag

I don't have a lot of gear in my bag. Only Nikon D750 with an 24-120 mm. Sometimes my old Nikon D300s with the lens 16-85 mm as well.

Feedback

First of all, look for light. Use the lower shooting point. Be patient, but respond quickly to changing situations. Because some things only last a short time.
