Pretty young lady, wonderful portrait pose, nice lighting effect and good eye contact. Great B&W capture.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my home studio.

Time

It was evening, so I did not have to blind the windows too much.

Lighting

I lighted the model with two flashguns. One on camera right at almost 90 degrees and a 1 meter flash through umbrella on 1/2 power. The second flashgun was on camera left at about 120 degrees, lighting the back of the model at about 1/4 power. Here I also used a shoot through umbrella.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D90 with a sigma 18-200 lens in hand. So no tripod was used, beceause I like to move arround to find the best angle for a shot. The settings for this photo were: Iso 200, 1/160 sec. at F11

Inspiration

I was experimenting with a kind of low key settings, to see what settings would work for me.

Editing

This picture requiered hardly any post processing, other than to convert it to black/white

In my camera bag

When I go out I usually have my Nikon D90, Sigma 18-200, one or two flashguns, a remote, a tripod, spare batteries and memori cards with my.

Feedback

The best way, for me at least, to judge the light on your model is to shoot thetered. Take your time, together with your model, to finetune things you, or your model, don't like. And most of all, HAVE FUN.
