This photo was shot at market square downtown Brownsville, Texas.Time
One of my favorites for sure. As I sat across the way, someone caught her curious gaze as she sat w/her book and cup of tea. Her dress, shoes, gaze, and pose led me to snap this shot at the right moment. This downtown cafe is where one can sit indoor/outdoor to conduct business, enjoy brunch and/or a cup of tea, compute, people watch, or simply read a book. Her simple beauty was icing on the cake.Lighting
With the somewhat dark colors behind her, I wanted to ensure she was the main focus of my shot. Just out of frame and camera right, I used my Flashpoint XPLOR 600 set to 1/8 power and double diffused with a Paul C. Buff Octabox. For the hair light on her right (camera left), I used my Flashpoint eVOLV 200 set to 1/2 power and diffused by a Magmod sphere. She looks dazzling.Equipment
Freehand, I used my Canon 5DIII w/the Canon 135 f/2 lens, Flashpoint XPLOR 600 (for my main light) and Flashpoint eVOLV 200 (for hairlight).Inspiration
I wanted to portray a lovely young lady just like this sitting at a downtown cafe enjoying the things she loves. A romantic book, a cup of tea, and her availability. Her youthful beauty and fashion just might catch the eye of the one she's been waiting for.Editing
Color correcting and some skin toning, I utilized Adobe Lightoom Classic to create my foundation. I finished off in Adobe Photoshop highlighting her skin and hair. As a result of the surrounding dark colors, I wanted to achieve a pop w/her white dress and strategic lighting. In my camera bag
I'm always ready with my Canon and Flashpoint gear. Prime lenses certainly make a difference in acheiving a popping shot enabling the image to tell a story.Feedback
Whatever comes across your mind in terms of a photo you'd like to create, entertain it and take the steps to make it happen. Unless you do this, the image will be just that...a thought.
