Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in an outdoor butterfly garden at the Jay C Hormel Nature Center in Austin, Minnesota.

Time

11AM

Lighting

Normally around noon on a sunny day is disparaged as having too harsh lighting, but it gave me the ability to get a quick handheld shot without spooking the monarchs.

Equipment

Handheld Sony RX10M3

Inspiration

It's mostly about the colors, and of course nature.

Editing

Nope.

In my camera bag

At the time just my phone and the Sony RX10. As a zoom bridge camera, it is very versatile, removing the need to carry around a lens bag.

Feedback

Fortunately monarchs are common enough that you just have to find some flowers they like. A native prairie garden works well, and if they're still a bit chilly and sluggish it makes it easier to get close to them.
