Behind The Lens

Location

On a warm summer evening, we hiked up to the very top of the foothills for an amazing view overlooking the beautiful city of Boise, Idaho.

Time

Golden hour all the way! With it being summertime we started taking photos around 8 pm,

Lighting

With the sun setting as we stood atop the city, it made for the most amazing soft warm light.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D610 and 35mm lens.

Inspiration

I wanted to capture the fun and love between this family.

Editing

A simple edit in Lightroom and then skin retouching in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

I always have my camera backpack filled with my equipment. I carry two camera bodies. Nikon D610 and the newer addition of the Nikon D810. My most favorite lenses are 35mm and 70-200mm. These two are what i typically use at sessions. I also carry my 24-70mm and 50mm and an on-camera, mount flash. I have a Cottoncarry waist belt that I use to carry my camera. It saves my neck a lot of strain and it keeps my camera from swinging while not in use.

Feedback

Interaction is the number one thing I can recommend to capture authentic moments between families. Have them play, snuggle and laugh. Using a 35mm allows you to get up close and get a really great storytelling view.
