Location
The picture was taken in Menorca, in the small port of Sa Nitja. It's a little port where the fishermen of Menorca have their small boats.Time
The photo was taken around 5:00 A.M. I am from Mallorca, and me and one of my friends decided to take a boat on Saturday morning to Menorca, make pictures during 24h, and come back to Mallorca on Sunday morning. This is one of the last pictures I did before the night ends. It was exhausting, but I'll keep always this 24h in my head.Lighting
The night was very dark and the sky was very clear, the conditions where perfect to photography the Milky Way. I used a small lantern to light the bridge and the boats to introduce them in the picture, everything was very calm and peaceful. It's a feeling I wanted to transmitEquipment
This was shot on Canon 6D, 14mm, 30s, and ISO 6400Inspiration
I was looking for different locations where I can shoot the Milky Way before I took the boat to Menorca. I saw a picture of this port and with an App I planed from my house to make a picture of this port with the Milky Way. I took the boat to Menorca with the idea in my head to come back with this picture. I just pray to find good conditions in the sky and I was lucky, because the night was perfect!Editing
Normally I always start to process my pictures on Lightroom to develop the Raw, I give more contrast to the photography, especially to the sky and the Milky Way. Then I finish the last adjustments in Photoshop using luminosity masks. In my camera bag
Normally when I do night pictures I have in my back my Sony A73, Samyang 14mm, Sigma 14-24. The Sigma is more sharp but the Samyang is manual. Depends the picture I want to take i choose which one I need. I use the manual if I want to change the focus or the F during the shoot, If not I use the Sigma and I can play with the focal distance. If I want to capture the Milky Way bigger I also have two lenses more, the Samyang 35mm 1.4 and a Sony 50mm 1.8. I also use the 50mm to make portrait pictures with the Milky Way.Feedback
Menorca has been named Starlight Island. It's one of the best places to photography the sky and the Milky Way. You have from February to October to make pictures of the Milky Way, but for my the best moment is Spring. Try to choose a night with a clear sky, you'll find a lot of weather Apps that helps a lot. You can plan with the App Photopills when you're going to have the Milky Way behind your object, you can also plan at what time will be there. Be patient, plan your shot and enjoy!
