The mantis is one of nature's most elite predators. Utilizing adaptive camouflage, a head that can turn almost 360 degrees, and serrated forelegs that fold like a knife, the mantis can either stalk its prey or remain almost motionless, only swaying slightly side to side to mimic leaves in the breeze to ambush small insects and animals with explosive speed. The mantis is a born killer, hunting as a nymph immediately after it hatches from the egg case alongside its 300 brothers and sisters.
