This common snapping turtle was seen on a wetlands trail in Ottawa, Canada. There was a rustling in the reeds and cattails along this boardwalk, and so I stood back and watched until this turtle emerged. It stopped as soon as I was noticed and stayed there, probably waiting for me to leave -- or to get a little too close.
