Location
This photo was taken at my local zoo in Perth, Western Australia. On that day I made friends with other local for the first time and we were exploring some of the new enclosures. We had turned a corner and it was just right there in front of us. And the best part was that this was a semi open enclosure (meaning no wire fencing).Time
This is probably one of my favourite images. It was a nice cool spring day outing, ripe for exploring a well known location. I shot this on October 22, 2018 at 12:31pmLighting
That day, the sun was shining so brightly that it penetrated the tree that the subject was under, which provided the perfect amount of colour, shadow and highlights throughout the image.Equipment
This shot was done with a Canon 700D using a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
It was an opportunity that I could not miss, since the subject was almost within arms reach. I would not have taken this shot had I not been invited to the zoo by other photographers through my Facebook pageEditing
As a Street Photographer, I don’t do a lot of post processing. In this I may have accentuated the colours, shadows and highlights but not as much as you think since I try to shoot the pictures the way I see them from the get go. That includes the framing, the amount of light coming through, and so on.In my camera bag
Well these days the first thing I make sure to pack is my Sigma 24-70mm lens. It is quite a versatile lens, great for both wide angle and portrait shots. Next is my Canon 700D camera body. Although I would have preferred a full-framed camera, this body can still pack quite a wallop in a pinch. Plus it’s my only camera body. Third I would be packing a Canon 50 1.8mm STM lens. Again the versatility played a part in acquiring this, especially for low level lighting situations. And lastly the Canon 55-250mm lens for the extra zoom.Feedback
Keep trying. If your not getting the pictures you want, try a different angle. Shoot with RAW files. That way you have a record of what settings you got right for the picture you wanted and learn from it. Keep learning. Heed the advice of senior photographers who have been where you are. I am still learning as a photographer and I still have a long way to go in my opinion. Oh and keep small handy cleaning with you, since you might need them on the go.
