Location
I took this photo while fishing on the banks of the Murchison river in Kalbarri Western Australia. He came over to get some of our "Mullies" (bait), so my hubby throw him a couple while I got close enough to get this and a few other amazing shots.Time
We went to the river around 3pm and Mister Pelican decided to visit us around 4pm. He stay on the rocks near us for quite some time be flying off with one of his mates.Lighting
It was all natural light, the sun was over the west side of us so I was able to get his face into the sun. The perfect light on a beautiful bird.Equipment
I only had my basic setup. I had my Canon 80D with the 55-250mm kit zoom lens. No flash, no tripod. Just me the bird and my camera. (Hubby in the background throwing fish lol)Inspiration
When you have one of the largest birds came over to see if he can get some fish, why wouldn't you grab your camera and start shooting... I love birds and he was just beautiful to see up close.Editing
Yes, I did do a small amount of post-processing. All I did was a "Curves" layer to adjust a little contrast then converted it to the "Jpeg" file you see here.In my camera bag
At the time I took this photo it was the basics, Canon 80D camera body, 18-55mm and 55-250mm kits lenses, 50mm f1.8 prime lens and my tripod.Feedback
Take you time when shooting animals, you have to have patients. It's the same when photographing children, a photo session can sometimes take longer then expected in order to get the best shots. And, most of all, Have fun!
