Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken during a family reunion, which I honestly had little interest in. I wondered off and found someone fishing in a beautiful river. Had to take a shot.Time
I took this photo during a summer afternoon. It was quite hot and humid on this particular day, so I’m glad I didn’t have to walk too far for the shot. It came early in the hike. Though I still spent the rest of the day looking for beautiful scenery and animals.Lighting
Being mid-afternoon, the lighting in this picture was harsh. However, I think it turned out for the best. It created a silhouette of the person and a lovely color over the water.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7500 and an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens for this picture. That is all I used.Inspiration
I was sitting at this viewpoint for a a little while, admiring its beauty. When I saw someone start fishing, I had to take the photo because the whole scene just described everything I love about Pennsylvania.Editing
I did do some post-processing. I took this a little under a year ago, so I don’t quite remember. But I believe I mainly added contrast and brought out the colors in the water. In my camera bag
At the time, I usually only had my camera, small zoom lens for landscape, and my 200-500mm f/5.6 for wildlife. Now, I carry ND filters as well as a tripod along with those things.Feedback
Honestly, go for a hike and admire the beauty. When you find something that inspires you, try to capture everything that inspired you in a compositionally appealing way, and that comes with practice. I still have plenty to learn.
