What a difference a week can make... I visited Porthallow and neighbouring Porthoustock coves with my camera last weekend. An uninteresting overcast sky and tiredness combined to leave me uninspired to take a single photo - despite making the effort to get up at 4.30am.

I had almost written off the eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula for photography - but with the area being the nearest spot favourable to the current sunrise trajectory and this morning's mid-tide, I dragged myself out of bed to try again!

This morning, the sun rose through a distant veil of thin cloud- casting a warm glow to the sky - contrasting with the cooler tones of the foreground. The light lasted for 15 minutes or so, before the sun ascended into clear sky - casting harsher light.

Before last weekend, I had never been to this corner of Cornwall. I found it unlike anywhere else in the county - with a rugged aesthetic, dark shingle beaches and relatively little sign of tourism.
