Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Manhattan on the night of the partial black-out during the summer of 2019. The couple were both reaching for each other's hands at the same time.

Time

This was taken just after sunset, it was one of the Manhattanhenge days, a warm evening in the city.

Lighting

Just natural light as the sun was setting.

Equipment

This was with a Canon Rebel T5i, no flash, just walking through the city.

Inspiration

I like to walk through the city and take photos of whatever I see. Sometimes they're not great but sometimes I catch very sweet and intimate moments that most people take for granted.

Editing

I really like to use custom presets in Lightroom and then adjust from there. This brings out some of the darker cooler colors while popping out the bright colors like her orange bag.

In my camera bag

My camera, which is now a Sony A7ii, spare batteries, filters, a tripod if I'm going out later in the day for some long exposures. But most of the time it's just my camera.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to just snap as you go. Sometimes it won't be great but sometimes it will, don't be discouraged when you have more unusable shots. Everything you take teaches you something new.
