Location
I took this photo in San Clemente CA under the pier in July 2019.Time
I was there shooting with friends and there was a lifeguard competition and car show. This photo was around 3:30 in the afternoon.Lighting
I did not use any lighting or special lighting, this is just the natural light that was available around 330 pm.Equipment
Nikon D750, Slik 700DX pro tripod, Sigma 24-105 @ 48 mmInspiration
I liked the way the water was a nice greenish blue color with the sunlight hitting it at that time of day, and the contrast of the darkness under the pier. I was just trying to do something a little different than normal and than what others were there shooting.Editing
I edited the raw file to add some contrast, pump up the shadows and brightness, lower the whites, pump up the blacks and clarity,In my camera bag
In my bag I always have my D750 and a few lens choices like the Nikon 50 mm f/1.4, Tamron 28-300, Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 and either the Nikon 70-200 f/2./8 or Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 or sigma 20 mm f/1.4 depending on what I am going to shoot that day. I bring a Slik tripod either the carbon fiber 634CF or 700DX Pro, and sometimes I will bring my crystal ball. I also bring filters for the lenses including neutral density, polarizer, etc.Feedback
If you are going to try to capture this I would bring a tripod, make sure you know the time of the high tide and low tides, and keep your head down so you don't hit any of the cross beams as you are walking around and trying to set up. Use your camera's live view to get a good idea of how your shot is looking and snap away.
