Behind The Lens

Location

I live on a campsite close to the southern tip of Africa and I have the privilege of seeing this view all day. My house faces east so I get the most amazing views of the sunrise every morning. I have taken hundreds of photos of this beautiful piece of ocean.

Time

The most productive time in the day for me is definitely the morning. That particular morning, I was taking a 10 min break from the office (taking with me the camera I had borrowed of course, because why not) and I noticed the clouds were so low it looked like I was floating above them. I love taking photos with natural lighting, especially in the early morning or early evening when the sunlight is golden.

Lighting

I am definitely not a pro, I work with what I have and rejoice if it turns out well!

Equipment

I was very blessed to borrow some equipment from a family member for a couple of months. I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens.

Inspiration

The clouds had perfectly placed themselves in front of the land across the bay, making it look like the sea went on forever. Then, as if orchestrated, a ship went floating past and made such a whimsical setting I just had to take a photo. It reminded me of Captain Hook's ship, from Peter Pan, being able to float on air as well as water.

Editing

I have yet to successfully master the art of editing photos, so almost all of my photos are raw. I know there is huge potential in the world of editing, but somehow I like the photo just as it is. It shows how it was in the moment, just an organic capture.

In my camera bag

I usually have my trusty phone, a Samsung S8i and that's about it.

Feedback

I don't feel I can give any advice as I am still very much learning, but I can say that I just go wild and have fun doing it.
