I always wondered "will I ever get to have a style of my own?". Then one day, as I took this shot, my husband tells me: "all your photos seem to have some elegance on them". I guess I should stick to that word ELEGANCE.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during a walk with my family (husband and two sons). Both me and my husband enjoy shooting. The only difference is that I focus on nature while he shoots street.

Time

It was late in the afternoon, in spring. The sun has just gone below the horizon so no direct lighting was present anymore.

Lighting

If any of the remaining light from the setting sun would touch the field of tulips, the picture would have been ruined. For this elegant look no harsh shadows are allowed.

Equipment

Honestly, I hate using flash. I live natural lighting. I'm one of those photographers who likes to work with the light not against the light. If I don't like how the light falls on my subject, I just don't shoot that. A tripod might have been helpful, but I'm too lazy to carry it with me (that just sits in the studio). More importantly than the camera and the lens is your position as photographer: distance and angle towards the subject (tulip flower).

Inspiration

I went looking for spring flowers to photograph (a way of enjoying spring). And then I searched for the most special looking exemplar, and did an angled composition. ( I guess this angled thing is what makes me, me).

Editing

Not much processing. The colors where pretty much OK in the original shot. Just some noise reduction and unsharp mask.

In my camera bag

There has to be a Fujifilm for street and a Sony for portraits. For nature, after my Nikon died, I turned to Olympus. I like to carry as less as possible, and have my hands free (to hold my kids while walking in search for the perfect subject).

Feedback

Check every possible angle and bent down close to the subject. Only then you will be able to see what otherwise is hard to observe.
