The Reddish Egrets will sometimes extend their wings overhead to create a shadow on the water. Schools of fish swim into the deceptive and potentially deadly shade, only to find they may become a meal for this clever bird. This attempt came up empty.I took this image at ground level using a skimmer pod. I love this technique - it gets me on the same level as the birds and allows me to move in much closer than if I was standing or kneeling.
