Location
This photo was taken behind The Sage in Gateshead which has these amazing shipping containers not many people knew about.Time
Around 20:30 during the summer, lots of clouds made it quite dull.Lighting
As ever in the North East of England the sky was flat, grey clouds but they produce amazing soft light that still has some directionality to it. Definitely my favourite weather for portrait work.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 77D with a 55-250mm f/4-5.6 and nothing else.Inspiration
This was my first time shooting with models and in a group and as I don't like push being bunched up with everyone else I tend to hang around on the fringes and look for different shots to everyone else. I find some of the best moments come when people don't know they're being photographed, the pause between poses was a nice moment to capture how tired Amber was getting after hours of posing.Editing
I did a few adjustments on the saturation to make the colours of the containers pop, a minimal curves adjustment for the contrast to make Amber's skin glow a little more and some denoising as the 77D was terrible for it.In my camera bag
I run with a Panasonic G9 because of the balance of features and weather sealing. A G Vario 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 which is brilliant as a kit lens, Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 as a portrait prime for shallow DoF and an Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4-5.6R which is fantastic for compression.Feedback
Look for the shots others aren't getting, your best images are the ones that show your own perspective. In my case, that means hang around on the edges, keeps your eyes up and your camera at the ready. Also, the better you know your camera, the faster you can work which helps get unique shots in faster environments.
