Location
This photograph was taken in my garage in San Diego, CA.Time
It was taken late in the afternoon.Lighting
This photograph was naturally lit by the afternoon sun, provided by a one-foot opening in my garage door.Equipment
I used a Nikon D3000 with an 18-55mm standard kit lens. I also used a tripod and a shutter release button, as well as a black sheet pinned to the wall.Inspiration
Lately I've found myself wanting to shift away from the mindset of "photographing for others" and find my own personal style. This was the third photograph in that series of self discovery.Editing
I did very little in post-process with this image, just minor adjustments to the lighting. In my camera bag
My bag is pretty simple - of course, my camera, lens and plenty of extra memory cards. I also always keep my shutter release button in the front pocket (and carry my tripod along side), along with a few magnifying lenses my mom bought for me in 2012. My camera rarely leaves my side and so my bag often doubles as my purse.Feedback
Don't be afraid to use what you have! Familiarize yourself with the spaces and things already made available for you, and then allow yourself to play in/with them. Rediscover them in a thousand different ways. And don't be too hard on yourself in the process. I used to spend hours and days sweating over whether an image was "just right" - the whole purpose of this project was to let that expectation go, and to just have fun creating.
