Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a short trip to Tanzania in 2011. The only time I have been to Africa. It was on a Safari with some good friends from New Zealand who were working there. They were about to return home, so we were lucky to be able to spend this time with them.

Time

The photo was taken towards the end of the day around 4pm. We had seen quite a few different animals, but seeing this elephant close up, was the highlight of the day. I had been wishing for a longer zoom many times during the trip, but it was not needed here as the elephant was walking towards us.

Lighting

I usually prefer sunny days, but the soft lighting here was just right.

Equipment

At the time I was using a Canon 600D with a Canon 55- 250mm zoom lens.

Inspiration

I was photographing madly all day, knowing I was unlikely to ever get back there.

Editing

I always shoot in Raw, and love processing my photos, this one has most likely been processed with Lightroom and Photoshop.

In my camera bag

When I travel I always have a Canon 17-40mm lens and a zoom lens. The wide angle lens is my goto.

Feedback

On a trip like this, you don't have a lot of choice, you just go with the tour and take as many photographs as you can.
