Built in 1845-46, Lanterman's Mill is the third mill at this site on Mill Creek. German Lanterman and Samuel Kirby (Lanterman's brother-in-law) built the grist-only mill. Advances in milling bypassed Lanterman & Kirby, leading to the mill's closure in 1888. The city bought the aging structure in 1892, using the large structure for social events--dances, etc.... Lanterman's Mill now serves as a museum, with its trails popular with runners and walkers.

Lanterman's Mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
