Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC in British Columbia Canada.

Time

It would have been early afternoon if I remember correctly. Which I don’t always ;)

Lighting

The museum has a large area just after the entrance that has amazing natural light with extremely large windows. This was further back from the window area so there was no problem with harsh shadows or direct sunlight.

Equipment

I didn’t use a tripod or flash. Just the old hands and crossed my fingers.

Inspiration

I tend to be inspired by shapes and perspectives. I thought the pair of totems and there slight differences just added character with the right composition. Composition is my main goal. I like it to be a bit old school without having to or wanting to do much editing after.

Editing

Just played a little with lighting and contrast.

In my camera bag

I have my canon t1 thingy with a canon 18-110 lens plus a 50mm lens. Lens cleaner, notebook. Tripod. Some various filters.

Feedback

Go for it. I try and treat digital photography like I would with film. Try and compose your shots on site. Whether you are going to do edits later or not. There is something satisfying in a well framed shot right off the bat. But don’t listen to me, I’m no expert.
