The Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico, a fundamental element of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, is a collection of 27 radio radio telescopes. The land around the VLA is very flat and becomes extremely dark at night — allowing any tourist the opportunity for some great views of the sky. The enormous radio telescopes travel by rail to different locations throughout the area spanning 13 miles long.
