Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Lake Gordon in South West Tasmania, Australia

Time

The photo was taken at 2.54pm on 16 April 2016. The Gordon Dam provided water for the Gordon Power Station and through a combination of factors the water level was extremely low. It was worth a visit as many trees that had been flooded would now be visible. The weather forecast was fine with light winds giving the potential for reflections so we landed up the car and took the 200km drive to the lake.

Lighting

The sun was moving into the west as reflections appears in the sheltered edges away from the light breeze.

Equipment

The image was taken on a Nikon D750 using a Tamron 24-70mm. s1250, f8 using a tripod. 56mm

Inspiration

We where able to drive down an old track to the waters edge close to these trees. I was looking for reflections and calm water. This was as close as I could get.

Editing

The raw image was a colour image converted to B&W. I remove a few distracting trees, increased the saturation and sharpened in photoshop

In my camera bag

In addition to the equipment used I carry a speed light, two other lens Nikon 70-20mm and a sigma 150-600mm

Feedback

If you know an a spot with tree in the water it's waiting for a calm day.
