Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo crouched behind a rock near a local storm pond in Calgary, Alberta. There was a family of mum, dad and about half a dozen tiny goslings learning about the world in the early morning sunshine.

Time

I took this photo just after sunrise when the dew was still on the blades of grass and the pond was sparkling in the early morning sunshine.

Lighting

The morning sunshine backlit the gosling’s fuzzy down and you just know it would be so soft to the touch.

Equipment

I used a canon 80D and a 70-300mm zoom lens.

Inspiration

I have a soft spot for goslings... they remind me of my kids learning about the world and learning to swim.

Editing

I brightened the colours in lightroom.

In my camera bag

I have ice cleats and a protein bar. Spare gloves and hand warmers.

Feedback

Wear waterproof trousers as you are kneeling on soggy spring soil.
