Location
This was taken up in the gorgeous surrounds of the Dandenong Ranges. Lush green surroundings interwoven with pops of colour from blue and purple flowers. A truly spectacular forest location for a backdrop.Time
This was approaching dusk. So we got to the location early to set up and check camera and lighting gear, so that come shoot time around 6.00pm, we were able to shoot fast with little disruption.Lighting
The natural light was gorgeous but I also wanted my subject to glow and pop out from her dark surroundings, so a flash was needed for the extra boost.Equipment
No fuss equipment as I had to carry it all down a hill. A canon 6d with a 24-70mm lens. Handheld for easier shooting as I had to move around for the right angles, plus I was above the subject the whole time. A single speedlight flash off camera on a stand with a small softbox to soften and diffuse the light on the subject.Inspiration
I have always liked the idea of merging my subjects with nature to create an almost dream like feel to my images. I feel like I am able to gain the most emotive works out of it.Editing
There was definite skin retouching process and a lots of curves layer masking in photoshop to achieve all the details and textures in the greenery as well as her dress and hair. Definitely added to the dramatic, deep and rich tones in the image. In my camera bag
I always pack my canon 6d with 24-70mm lens, along with the gorgeous lux 85mm 1.4 prime in case I am feeling some close ups and because well it is an 85mm (my precious!). I also take a 50mm (nifty fifty) if I am feeling like I want to get some standard focal length shots throughout the shoot. A reflector for adding fill and a speedlight in case of a lack of light. Of course spare batteries and memory cards and charger.Feedback
A handy tip is that of you are shooting at a time where you are losing light quickly, always be super organised and have mostly everything prepped so that you have a higher chance of getting the shots you want as well as getting them sharp and in focus without being flustered about other things not working or going wrong. Planning is always a good thing.
