Location
This photo was taken on my second trip to Iceland in March 2019 near Hofn / Vestrahorn Mountains. We came across a snowy field with a dozen icelandic horses gathered around a mound of hay.... They were pretty close to the fence but I manage to eliminate it from my shots.Time
This was taken near sunset which is pretty early in the day in march in Iceland!Lighting
It was a pretty cloudy day so the light was very soft.Equipment
I used my canon 6D with my 24-70mm f/2.8 lensInspiration
I love to photograph wildlife. Although these horses weren't wild, I wanted to capture a typical Iceland scene.Editing
Basic ajustements in post processing with lightroom.... adjusting the crop, tweaking shadows and highlights a bit of vibrance and clarity. In my camera bag
If I could I would have a lot more in my bag but I also like to travel light so I try to limit myself to 2 bodies (canon 6D and now the R5) with 2 or 3 lens that covers all my needs from wide to telephoto with the 24-70 f2.8, the 70-200 f/2.8 and the 300 f2.8 (my three favorite!)Feedback
The only thing you need to capture a similar image is just go to iceland! it's a fantastic country to visit so pure and wild and authentic. Icelandic horses can be found all over the place, you just need to be patient enough to get them in the right pose but that's not that difficult... One of my favorite shot was actually in the summer of 2016 when a group of 20+ horses kept running back and forth away from us then back towards us... it was fun to capture them running in a straight line...
