This is Badwater Basin in California's Death Valley National Park. This area is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley is known to be the hottest and driest place on earth, but there was actually quite a bit of water here when I visited. Of course, it was February and the temperature was only in the 80s...well below the record-setting 134 degrees measured here in July 1913!
