This picturesque pretty little church sits in the village of Tollard Royal close to the Wiltshire border with Dorset, six miles from the Dorset town of Shaftesbury.

The earliest record of this parish church on this site dates from 1291. The earliest record of the dedication of the church to St Peter ad Vincula dates from 1412. There are only 16 churches in England with this dedication, meaning St Peter in Chains, after the Basilica of San Pietro in Rome.
