Behind The Lens

Location

Right in the comfort of my own home!!! I was playing with light effects in my in-home studio.

Time

I was in my studio so I was using artificial lighting.

Lighting

I was playing with lighting in my studio and I set this one up with the lighting underneath the flower using a Scentsy warmer and a clear top. I set the flower on top of it and used my macro lens on a tripod to take the shot.

Equipment

My camera is a Canon EOS 80D, the lens used was my Canon EF-S 60mm Macro lens on a tripod. I did not use flash, I used lighting underneath the flower.

Inspiration

I love to go down in my studio and just play with still photography. I play with lighting, taking pictures of odd things, pretty much where ever my creativity takes me. I get so wrapped up in "playing" I will spend the whole day in studio and not realize it. I love to play outside the box to see what unique photo's I can capture. What works, what doesn't. What creates a unique effect in the subject matter and lighting. I do some pretty crazy, creative stuff! I was playing around with underneath lighting when I took this photo using a Scentsy wax warmer and a clear top so the lighting shown through.

Editing

The only post-processing I did was a slight adjustment on the clarity to soften the lines a little bit more but that was all I felt was needed in this shot.

In my camera bag

I always have my Cannon EOS 80D, my Sigma DC 18-250MM that lives on my camera. I also always have my macro lens, which is a Canon EF-S 60mm lens. I toggle between those 2 lenses primarily. I do also have a Tameron 150-600mm Telephoto lens that goes with me in nature. I never leave home without 3 extra batteries, SD cards, remote switch and tripod depending on where I am going.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to try new things. Think outside the box, bend or break "rules", use different techniques, let your creativity flow! I believe the more creative you get the more unique your photo's get. When I "play" with still photography I am also letting myself learn more about using different lighting techniques and I like to use different subject matter that we may use everyday (pencils, forks, flowers, etc.) and see what kind of perspective I can use. I also have a unique platform on which I showcase my photographs so that comes into play when I take a photograph as well. Let yourself have fun!!! Photography was meant to be fun, creative and artistic. You just never know when you will create that perfect "master piece".
