Behind The Lens

Location

Near Loomis/Oroville in WA state

Time

Late day before sun fell behind mountain ridge

Lighting

I was actually stopped along side of the road because had just taken shot of sun dropping behind mountain ridge to my left. It was the natural light that fell to my right that drew my eyes to her spot when I spotted her frozen and looking back at me.

Equipment

No flash or filters were used.

Inspiration

It was the combination of the lighting and the silence when I saw her that made me take this shot when Id passed up several other deer shots along that particular drive.

Editing

In general, yes I usually do. I dont remember the editing (or IF) on this particular one, but when I get that great, rare golden moments shot, Im usually too afraid of "messing up a good thing" to edit to far in. Mostly its the contrast settings that I will change to bring a little more intensity to the scene.

In my camera bag

It depends... I used to always have one of my Canons (but, they were earlier versions with lower megapixels that most sites min megapixels have already surpassed. Presently I keep my Sony DSLR in my to go bag and my cell phone camera in hand always (just in case) and a basic zoom lens, spare battery pack or 2. I always have my cell set on Pro for quick access to settings when Im in a hurry or for when I unexpectedly come upon something that I don't have time to get the camera out and set before missing a shot. Truthfully my switch to Sony from my Canon was a big mistake that Im in the market to correct.

Feedback

If you're relying on your cell phone camera as a backup for quality shots, make sure your phones camera is up to the task and is a decent camera that can be set manually as well as come with quality presets
