Behind The Lens

Location

In Adelaide, there was a courtyard behind one of the buildings and a friend of mine is into fashion and has an Instagram, so she asked me to do a shoot (first time I'd ever done a shoot of that kind)

Time

It was around 8am if I remember correctly

Lighting

Natural lighting, whatever the sun was doing, it was a shaded spot so was fairly neutral and because the sun wasn't high in the sky, it wasn't harsh light

Equipment

I was interchanging between a Fujifilm x100f, and a canon 700D, I believe this one was on the canon

Inspiration

I just loved the way she was sitting on doing some of the other photos and decided to get a close up of some of the items she was "exhibiting" that day

Editing

Not much editing, normally I try to get the photo as close as possible in camera so I have to do minimal editing (unless I'm specifically going for some sort of stylised photo, but even then I would try to get it as close as possible in camera). In this case, all I really did was cool the image a little with the white balance, and just made the colours pop a tad more so it wouldn't look so flat.

In my camera bag

Depends greatly on what my purpose is, I completely changed from canon to Fujifilm. If I'm out just shooting for myself, then I will have my Fuji xpro3 with a 12mm lens and a 50mm lens, and I'll also carry my little Ricoh GDR IV, an amazing little camera even though it's 9 years old.

Feedback

Just keep trying different things, plan a shoot so you're not sitting there on the spot trying to think of good ideas and feeling a little lost. Check out other photographers on youtube etc and see what inspiration you can draw from them. At the same time be open to having some of your plans changed as you go, you may get inspired to do different things when you're out there doing it. Also, if you're using a model, don't be afraid to direct him or her, it's a little awkward at first but it's cool. If your model is experienced they will be used to direction, and also you'd be surprised how they has a natural feel for what will be good. If your model is not experienced then just try out various things, it's a learning curve for both of you, enjoy it!
