This Australian Green Tree Snake arrived upstairs at my front door looking for a free feed. At three feet long the cat would have been safe but not any frogs, geckos or lizards which are bountiful at my place.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the landing up a flight of external stairs, just near my front door. The timer the snake is on is the rail where you'd normally put your hand.

Time

It was mid afternoon on a hot summers day

Lighting

Bright sunlight on a clear day

Equipment

The Camera used was a Nikon Coolpix 300, the nearest camera I had at close reach

Inspiration

I grabbed the shot as it not that often you get one of these guys up close for a good clear shot

Editing

No - all digital

In my camera bag

I have several cameras, mainly Canon. I also have an array of lenses from macro to telephoto but the Nikon uses none of them. I like the Nikon especially as I spend a deal of time fishing or at the beach and being waterproof has that advantage. It is also pretty foolproof and as I am just a hobby photographer that helps.

Feedback

Just keep a camera (any type of camera) handy and keep your eyes open. I keep a small Canon in my car, the Nikon on the boat and at the beach, my Canon EOS 400D with telephoto lense, and my Canon EOS M100 with macro lense fully charged and at close reach all the time. I even have a couple of trail cams that I set up at night to catch nocturnal wanderers. But most importantly, be ready and have fun.
