Location
It was taken at the Stappitzer See. This Alpine lake is situated in the Hohe Tauern mountain range near Mallnitz in Carinthia, Austria. It is located in the peripheral zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park.Time
We spent our holidays near Mallnitz and we went there by car . Unfortunately after a few days our car broke down and it was taken to the garage. It would take two days to get the necessary repair done. So without car or other means of transportation we decided to go for a hike to the Stappitzer See which would take us a couple of hours. The lake is a resting area for numerous bird species and I thought that would be a nice place to take photographs. After a walk of a couple of hours we arrived at the lake were I took this shot at the end of the morning just after arriving there.Lighting
Since it was cloudy there was hardly any sunlight reflecting on the water and I could even see the bottom of the lake. The water was clear. There was hardly any wind so this combination created a perfect opportunity to take this photo.Equipment
This was a shot on a Sony Alpha 58. I used a Tamron 18-270m lens with focal length 35 mm.Inspiration
We arrived at the lake where we traveled along a small part of the Alpe-Adria Trail. That trail is a long-distance hiking trail that leads from the foot of the majestic Grossglockner mountain to the azure blue sea beside the harbour town of Muggia. We could see the lake when walking on the trail. I saw the wooden cottage and decided to get of the trail to the lake to find the perfect position to take my photo.Editing
Hardly any post-processing was necessary. Only some small corrections on exposure, contrast, saturation and vibrancy. Since it was cloudy the light was not too bright and that made it easy to use the right exposure. In my camera bag
I do not have many lenses. I only have a second hand 50 mm lens from sony, a 18-270 mm Tamron lens and a second hand Minolta 100 mm macro lens. I did take my tripod but did not use it with this photo.Feedback
Taking beautiful photos doesn't have to involve using expensive equipment (although honestly, I would buy a Sony A7R III if I had the money!) or travelling a lot. I myself take photographs with a rather basic camera and can find beauty in the smallest of things. I capture that beauty using my macro lens. My overall advice would be: don't overthink but follow your heart!
