Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my home studio in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

Time

It was in the evening but I used a flash anyway.

Lighting

The lighting was pretty classic: a flash with 120cm octobox on the left side positioned above the model.

Equipment

I used Canon 5Dmk2 with Canon EF28mm f/1.8 USM lens for this image.

Inspiration

The idea was spontaneous. I wanted to make an image of woman, her face is turned to the light but there is darkness behind her. Her eyes are closed, she feels the light but knows that she will stay in the dark. I decided to shot it immediately, despite I only had my old Canon 5Dmk2 with 28mm lens available. I asked my girlfried to be a model for this shooting and she did it great.

Editing

I used Lightroom (now I prefer Capture One) then Photoshop. Nothing special here - stamp and healing brush to remove small objects, then frequency separation and D&B. I used Nik Collection Color Efex Pro for colouring.

In my camera bag

I have Sony a7R3 with Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM as my main camera and Canon 5Dmk2 with Canon EF28mm f/1.8 USM wich I barely use now.

Feedback

If you have a sudden idea, try to do it as soon as possible. You can create an interesting image under the influence of inspiration even if you do not have everything you need under your hand.
