There is a local pond that hosts both hooded merganser and bufflehead ducks every spring. They are there for a very short period of time. Every year I have tried, unsuccessfully, to capture these beautiful ducks on film. The pond is situated as such that access to them can be difficult on partially frozen ponds. They generally stay way in the back away from any intrusion and any chance of being captured on film. Well, I got lucky this year. I happened across the pond and spotted the male and female hooded merganser. I carefully got out of my car so as not to frighten them and proceeded to take a series of shots. The sun shone down perfectly allowing the most magnificent natural light to highlight this beautiful bird.
