Location
This image was taken on the south coast at a beach just 5 mins away from my home here in Barbados.Time
I remember checking to see that sunset was around 6pm that day and I went a couple of hours before to catch golden hour. This particular spot is in the south of the island so the sun sets over the water off to the west.Lighting
My first hour shooting, the sun was still a bit high in the sky and I was capturing more back lit barrel images. About an hour or so in the sun dip low enough where I could get a shot of the wave and the sunset in the same frame. Because of the beach's location and the wave refraction that day I was able to create a leading line to the sunset.Equipment
I used a sony a6300 with a 30mm macro lens in a Liquideye c6300 water housing.Inspiration
I shoot this spot alot at sunset. I would watch the changing path of the sun as it sets each time. Some days it's over the sea and others it sets over the land to the west. I always thought it would be cool to create an image with the wave in the foreground leading into the sun setting over the land. This image wasn't quite that but I think it turned put pretty well.Editing
This wasta single exposure. So I did some post processing in lightroom to adjust colors, light and sharpness and did some dodging and burning and crop adjustments in photshop to finish it up.In my camera bag
My water housing is always first into my bag. Back then it was a liquideye c6300 housing. I kept that paired with either sony 30mm macro, sigma 19mm or rokinon 8mm fisheye and the Sony a6300. I have since upgraded my kit to a liquideye c2060 housing, sony a7riii, sony 85mm f1.8 and sony 24-105mm f4. I also use the sigma 150-600mm with the mc-11 converter when I shoot from land. These can always be found in my Rvca Zak Noyle duffel. Its the perfect bag for what I do, water proof, rugged and fits more than I need most days.Feedback
Barbados is a small island in the caribbean with generally great weather and beautiful beaches. We have great sunsets almost everyday here. If you can't get here just do a little research on beaches near to you and the their location. Watch what path the sun takes as it sets in their areas and line up the shot. The more you shoot, the more likely it will be that you will get the shot.
