Location
This image was taken in south east Kentucky near Cumberland Falls State Park. The hike to the falls is tough but the reward was the image you see. I carried my camera attached to a tripod and my Infrared camera slung over my shoulder.Time
This image was shot in the late afternoon.Lighting
The area where this image was shot is a small gorge so in late afternoon the sun was blocked to overcast conditions.Equipment
I shot this with a Sony A7 and a Sony 28-70mm lens. I use an older Manfrotto 190 tripod.Inspiration
I had seen other images of this waterfall before and I thought I could put my own twist to the images of this beautiful waterfall.Editing
Very simply yes I use Photoshop and NIK on my images. In my camera bag
I try to pick a camera and lens combo for what I want to shoot and try to take very little else with me. I travel with most of my kit in the car but like to walk with out a bag if I can.Feedback
If you are planning a trip to shoot an image of any subject like a waterfall or a covered bridge the terrain around the subject will dictate the places you can shoot from so a shooting plan has to be made on the spot. I have set up and looked through the viewfinder many times before I ever shoot an image. Try to imagine the image in a frame and what you want to include in the frame with the main subject. You can include more of the surrounding or get in close to the subject. My wife likes up close images I prefer to step back and add some of the surroundings to give a sense of the scale of the subject. You have to develop your own shooting style.
